Empowering the Next Generation of Digital Leaders: Thrive Nest Celebrates International Day of Girls in ICT at Kalpohin SHS

To mark the International Day of Girls in ICT, Thrive Nest Ghana organized a workshop at Kalpohin Senior High School on 24th April 2025. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Girls in ICT for an Inclusive Digital Transformation.”

The event brought together 100 smart and curious girls to learn about technology, ask questions, and get inspired by amazing role models.

Inspiring Talks from Mentors in Tech & STEM

The workshop featured three speakers who brought energy, experience, and encouragement:

  • Abdul Rashid Lansah, Digital Entrepreneur and Product Designer at Jenesys AI, spoke passionately about the growing world of careers in tech. He encouraged the girls to see themselves as creators of digital solutions and to boldly pursue tech-related careers.
  • Ing. Deborah Adokoh, Regional Director at the Geological Survey Authority in Tamale, shared her journey as a woman in STEM. Her message was clear and powerful: “Your dreams are valid, and no challenge is too big to overcome.”
  • Samiha Yunus, Executive Director of Women Support and Activists Group, connected with the girls on a practical level. She emphasized how everyday digital tools can empower their learning, communication, and confidence.

A Time to Ask, Learn, and Grow

After the presentations, the girls had the chance to engage directly with the speakers during a mentorship session. They asked questions, shared their thoughts, and received valuable guidance from the resource persons who were eager to listen and support.

Exploring the Power of Generative AI

The most exciting part of the day was a hands-on practical session led by Thrive Nest’s Programs Strategy Lead, Mr. Hamidu Blaise. The girls were introduced to Generative AI using ChatGPT. They learned how to:

  • Simplify complex schoolwork
  • Create effective study plans
  • Prepare for exams with AI tools

The session was eye-opening and empowering, showing the girls how technology can support their academic goals in real, practical ways.

A Warm Appreciation

The Head of the IT Department at Kalpohin SHS, Mr. Ambrose, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the event. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives and encouraged Thrive Nest to return regularly to continue impacting students’ lives.

This event was a strong reminder that when girls are given the tools, guidance, and opportunity, they thrive. Thrive Nest remains committed to building platforms that empower young girls to dream big, learn new skills, and shape their futures through technology.
