Thrive Nest Launches Digital Skills Training for 20 Master Crafts

Master crafts in Ghana’s informal apprenticeship sector hold immense skills; from tailoring and weaving to cosmetology, metal works, and agriculture. Yet, despite their technical expertise, many artisans continue to operate in traditional ways, with little to no use of digital tools that could transform their businesses.

Through engagements with the Ghana TVET Service (Informal Apprenticeship Division) and associations of master crafts, Thrive Nest Ghana identified critical gaps: limited digital literacy, low adoption of financial management tools, and minimal online visibility. These challenges prevent artisans from accessing bigger markets and competing in today’s digital economy.

In response, we designed the Digital Inclusion for Craft Enterprises (DICE) program – an initiative tailored to empower artisans with the skills they need to thrive in the digital era.

The program provides practical, hands-on training in:

  • Basic digital literacy and online safety
  • Social media marketing for small enterprises
  • E-commerce essentials
  • Digital financial literacy
  • Photography for product marketing

Pilot Launch

On 7th August 2025, Thrive Nest officially launched the pilot cohort of DICE at the Thrive Nest training facility in Tamale.

The five-week program brings together 20 master crafts from sectors including dressmaking, cosmetology, smock weaving, and hairdressing. These artisans will receive intensive training and mentorship, equipping them with the confidence and knowledge to use digital tools for business growth.

During the launch, Madam Humaimatu Abdul-Wahab, the Northern Regional Head of the Ghana TVET Service- Informal Apprenticeship, encouraged participants to take the training seriously, reminding them that digital skills are no longer optional but essential for staying relevant in today’s economy.

Looking Ahead

The DICE pilot is just the beginning. Our vision is to scale the program to reach 100 master crafts across Northern Ghana in the first year, strengthening the informal apprenticeship sector and ensuring no artisan is left behind in the digital age.

At Thrive Nest, we believe digital inclusion is not a privilege but a right. With the right skills, master crafts can unlock new markets, boost productivity, and secure sustainable livelihoods.

Together with the TVET Service, associations, and partners, we are building a future where skills meet opportunity in the digital economy.

Call to Action

We are inviting partners, donors, and stakeholders to join us in equipping Ghana’s informal sector for the digital age. With the guidance of the TVET Service and craft associations, and through collaborative effort, we can bridge the gap, boost productivity, and ensure that no craft is left behind.
